What training do I need?

I have primarily covered this in one of my other posts, How do I do Sports Med or First Aid for my Club?

There are a number of levels that you can do with Sports Medicine Australia. I sound like their advertising mouth, I'm not but to my knowledge they offer the best in Australia. St John's offer a great Cert course but it is not Sport oriented, SMA (Sports Medicine Australia) focus on sport PLUS they give great backup and excellent resource material for you as well as your insurance. OK back to levels, you can start off as simple as a taper, SMA's taping courses are excellent, a beginners and also an advanced course. Unless you are trained correctly DONT do taping otherwise you can do more damage then you assist preventing.

You can also do their Level 1 Sports Trainer, great course that puts you on the sporting field qualified to handle areas like RICER etc. Level 2 is far more advanced and requires certain hours to be done as a level 1. What I haven't covered for you is that you may wish to develop further in this field or already be a Medical Professional wanting to assist your local sporting community, good on you and here are a few tips. I have many MD's as great friends but do I see them on the sporting field of a weekend, NO, they dodge it like the plague. many are concerned about legalities and also many just plainly have enough during their normal day to day and look for an outlet where they dont have to treat a Patient.....

Always remember that you fit in as part of a Team and that you cant do everything, simply because you are not qualified to do that. take care fo them and hand onto the next level, this may be an EMT, MD, Hospital etc.
