How do I do Sports Med or First Aid for my Club?

I am sure that your Club will welcome you with open arms to assist them, providing you are aware of what lies ahead. You will need your First Aid Certificate before anything. Many of the RTO's throughout Australia DO NOT cover Sports specific First Aid Training, this can be a problem. The main areas of difference is the fairly large amount of soft tissue injuries that you will be faced with plus the variety of injuries that will come your way in a Season.

Sports Medicine Australia do offer a Sports oriented First Aid certificate plus a Sports Trainer Module after you have your Senior FIrst Aid. These are all oriented towards Sport.

Talk about it with your Club and in most instances if you are Volunteering your time they may pay for your training, if you are being paid by them on an hourly rate then they may require you to be qualified, hence you are up for the costs of these.

DONT do this unless you are qualified out and can show the paperwork, ensure that you are covered by their insurance or once again if you are paid as a contractor you may have to have your own insurance. Sports Medicine Australia generally supply this with your membership cost.

Ok, good luck and write to me if you want help, all the best.....
